Finding the motivation to do basic tasks can be hard. Finding the motivation to change your life is even more challenging. If you’ve ever looked back at your life and thought to yourself, I’d like to change, or I’d like to become a better person, this is the article for you. There’s a chance you’ve heard this all before but if you haven’t, keep reading. The fact is motivation isn’t enough. Motivation is an emotion; therefore, it is fleeting. If you want to change your life, you need to replace motivation with systems.

Of course, motivation can help you take that first step; however, if you’re in this for the long run, which you probably are, motivation can only take you so far.  In this article, we’ll be sharing simple but effective methods that will help you change your life.

  1. You Don’t Have to Find a Purpose – Having a singular purpose is overrated. Many of us can identify the source of our stress in the lack of “a purpose.” You’ve probably seen many self-help gurus all over the internet talking about how to find your one purpose in life. This is simply not true. Life is what you make of it. If you spend the rest of your days searching for that one thing, that one person, you’ll miss out on a lot of experiences.

It’s important to understand that you can have more than one purpose. And it doesn’t have to be a “purpose”; it can just be a project you’re passionate about. There is very little in the world that will bring you joy consistently; however, there are many things that you still love and feel passion for even when they aren’t where or what you want them to be. To cut a long story short, you don’t need to find your purpose. Living is the purpose.

  1. Find what you like – A lot of us fail at projects because we absolutely hate them. If you want to start reading, don’t start with a genre you don’t like. If you want to start going to the gym, don’t do workouts that you hate. It is important that you like what you do, or else you will not follow through.
  1. Change with Love – Whatever it is that you want to change about yourself will only change with love. Ironically, hate is not powerful enough to cause change. Yes, you can hate your habits, yet you still have those bad habits. If you want to make positive changes, you must begin from a place of acceptance and love.

Systems over Will – Habits are powerful; however, we only tend to notice their power when it’s time to break a bad habit. You can harness this power to create good habits. If you want to make a change in your life, make the actions that’ll facilitate that change a habit. If you’re going to be more positive, make it a habit to read affirmations every single day at a specific time. Habits are powerful, and you can make them work for you.
